Join us for the Pridefest Parade!
On Sunday, June 2, UU Church West bid farewell to Intern Minister Kimberlee Tomczak Carlson. She is moving into her new role as Director of Religious Education at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee. Kimberlee was presented with a hand-crafted stole covered in her favorite animal, turtles. The stole was created by Rev. Suzelle Lynch and decorated by church members and friends. Marie Sinur-Schmidt baked a themed cake for the celebration. Congratulations Kimberlee! We wish you all the best!
The concert by Bill Staines last night was a wonderful success, thanks to all of you! We had 130 people in attendance (plus volunteers) and it was a great fundraiser for the church! We had people who came from Madison and Chicago! I want to show my appreciation to everyone for helping to make this event happen. Thank you to: My co-host David Stokes, Kurt Gaetano, Polly Ellingson, Vicky and David Brostrom, Susan Endes, Pat and David Rierson, members of the UUCW Music Committee, and last but not least, David HB Drake. Though Unitarian Universalists have worked for peace and protested war for generations, we too have lost children, parents, siblings, ancestors, friends and other beloveds to our nation’s armed conflicts. FROM REV. SUZELLE: UU Church West is part of Brookfield-Elm grove Interfaith Network (BEGIN) and the interfaith conference of greater Milwaukee. Those organizations have issued statements regarding a conference held by recognized anti-Muslim hard groups at the Waukesha Cty Expo Center on May 11.
Bring your dusty vehicle to the UUCW Youth Car Wash and leave with a clean and shiny car! The UUCW Youth Group is providing environmentally friendly hand car washes on Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. You choose the donation amount. On Saturday, May 4 members and friends from six area UU congregations gathered to attend the workshop "Growing Trust and Leadership in the Service of Anti-Racism." Workshop Leaders Julica Hermann de la Fuente and the Rev. Ashley Horan helped participants explore the connections between nurturing leaders, cultivating deep trust, and building racially just communities.
On Sunday, May 5, 2019 our young people celebrated a very important rite of passage - the Bridging Ceremony honors the completion of high school and the shift to young adulthood. It is an opportunity to give them blessings as they move into the wider world. Congratulations to all seniors and thank you to the YRUU Advisers for their dedication.

Meditative Handpan Concert - Saturday, April 6 - 7:00 pm Join us for an evening of peaceful meditation accompanied by the resonant songs of Kristie Vosburg, Russell Anderson, and Sarah Frey, performing as a handpan ensemble. The handpan trio will play a variety of meditative pieces in a continuously flowing session (there will be no talking between pieces). The handpan is a steel pan played with the hands consisting of two metal half-shells glued together. Sounding similar to a harp, its music is very soothing and relaxing and goes well with meditation. Before the start of the meditation session, there will be a brief introduction to the handpan instruments. For meditation, participants are encouraged to sit, lay on the floor, or even stand — whichever is most comfortable. If you feel you would like to move around or dance softly, this is okay too! No meditation experience is necessary. Please bring your own cushion, mat, blanket, pillow, or whatever you need to be completely comfortable. Free will offerings accepted. Video excerpts from Windy Hill Concert held in May 2018. This concert features Windy Hill Brass directed by Dr. Craig Hurst and Windy Hill Handbell Choir directed by Dr. Nancy Van Brunt. Brass group highlights include "Brass Quintet No. 1" by Victor Ewald which represents the Russian Romanticism musical style. Other selections include two pieces by German Composer Samuel Scheidt. Handbell Choir arrangements include "Wade in the Water" for the full handbell choir, "Deep River" for handbell quartet, and "Take 5" by Dave Brubeck for handbell sextet. Additional selections will feature an arrangement of "Autumn Leaves", and "The Haunted House" accompanied by a media presentation. The handbells will finish on a light note with the "Muppet Show Theme Song". Freewill donations will be encouraged, with all proceeds going to the Menomonee Falls Food Pantry, UUCW's food pantry partner for October. Refreshments will be served during a post-performance reception.
